A Disney World vacation is magical—but it can also be tiring. To recharge, many guests plan a rest day in the middle of their trip. A rest day doesn’t have to mean sitting in your hotel room (unless you want to!). Here are some relaxing yet entertaining ways to enjoy your time outside the theme parks:
1. Disney Springs
What it is:Disney Springs is a massive shopping, dining, and entertainment district with free admission and no park ticket required.
Things to do:
Enjoy a meal at fan-favorite restaurants like The Boathouse, Homecomin’, or T-Rex Cafe.
Browse world-class shops like World of Disney, LEGO Store, and Uniqlo.
Catch a show at Cirque du Soleil: Drawn to Life or a movie at the AMC theater.
Why it’s great for a rest day:You can explore at your own pace, and most areas are shaded or indoors—perfect for recovering from the Florida sun.
2. Disney’s BoardWalk
What it is:This charming, turn-of-the-century themed promenade is located near EPCOT and offers dining, shopping, and entertainment in a waterfront setting.
Things to do:
Take a peaceful walk around Crescent Lake.
Rent a surrey bike with friends or family.
Enjoy a drink or dessert at BoardWalk Ice Cream or AbracadaBar.
Watch street performers in the evening.
Why it’s great for a rest day:It’s low-key, scenic, and full of hidden gems without the crowds of the theme parks.
3. Miniature Golf
What it is:Disney offers two themed mini-golf locations:
Winter Summerland near Blizzard Beach (holiday-themed)
Fantasia Gardens near the Swan and Dolphin Resorts (Fantasia movie-themed)
Why it’s great for a rest day:It’s a fun activity that takes less than an hour and adds a playful Disney twist to your downtime.
4. Resort Hopping
What it is:Exploring other Disney resorts—even if you're not staying there—can be a fun and inspiring experience.
What to do:
Grab a Dole Whip at the Polynesian Village Resort.
Watch animals roam the savanna at Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Check out the iconic lobby and geyser at Wilderness Lodge.
Ride the monorail to the Grand Floridian and Contemporary for shopping, dining, or photos.
Why it’s great for a rest day:Each resort has unique themes and atmospheres. You can enjoy great food, explore new surroundings, and even catch fireworks or Electrical Water Pageant views from certain locations.
Other Ideas for Your Rest Day
Relax by the pool at your resort.
Enjoy a spa treatment at select resorts.
Book a character dining experience without park admission (e.g., Chef Mickey’s or Topolino’s Terrace breakfast).
Take a boat ride or scenic stroll along one of Disney’s waterways or trails.
Tip: Rest days are also a great opportunity to do laundry, repack, review photos, or get ahead on any reservations or plans for the second half of your trip.
